Biography
Faustina Elikplim Akurugu (born 8 April 1975) is the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency in the Greater Accra Region — a determined, principled public servant who made history by becoming the first NDC representative to successfully contest and win this long-standing New Patriotic Party stronghold. Her election in December 2024, officially confirmed by the Electoral Commission on 31 December 2024 after a highly competitive collation process, was one of the most closely watched outcomes of the 9th Parliament election.
Hon. Akurugu holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with Linguistics from the University of Ghana and a Master of Philosophy in Guidance and Counselling from Methodist University College Ghana. She began her professional career as a Field Officer with World Vision Ghana, providing community development services across the Central Region — a formative experience that built her expertise in grassroots advocacy, child welfare, and community mobilisation. She later built private sector experience as an entrepreneur while continuing her community engagement.
Her path to Parliament was defined by extraordinary resilience. She first contested Dome-Kwabenya in the 2020 election, earning 52,262 votes (40.97%) in defeat, before returning in 2024 with renewed determination and winning by 298 votes in one of the most celebrated victories of the election cycle. Since her election, she has prioritised youth welfare, sports development, and women's empowerment, donating sports equipment and financial support to the Ga East Municipal Education Directorate in March 2025.
